LUMBERJACKS KNOCK OFF A PAIR OF WINS

The Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks took a pair of home games against two of the Greater Metro Jr. A League teams Friday and Saturday, downing the South Muskoka Shield 4-3, and the Elliot Lake Bobcats 5-3.

Friday, the Jacks fell behind 3-0, before storming back with four unanswered goals in the second and third periods. Atte Koopikka led the comeback with 2 third period goals to tie and win the game. Koopikka also had an assist. Mark Wardell made 39 saves in the win with Illes Gallo and Timi Tamminen also scoring goals and David Amnas picking up 2 assists.


Saturday against Elliot Lake, Steeven Nicolet's second goal late in the third period proved o be the winner. David Amnas also scored a goal and had a pair of assists for the Jacks. Maciej Rompkowski scored a goal and an assist. Newcomers Taylor Jackson iced the win with an empty net goal, and Dale Hatfield picked up an assist.

LUMBERJACKS SHINE AT GMHL ALL-STAR GAME

On January 10th, the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League All Star game was held in Gravenhurst. Teams were divided as the North American All Stars and the World All Stars. It was a clean and fast game that saw the North American All Stars, including Joel Senecal, defeat the World All Stars, including Illes Gallo, Atte Koopikka, game MVP David Amnas and Magic Rompkowski, 9 - 7. The players are shown with coach Lui Ricci.

LUMBERJACKS WELL REPRESENTED AT GMHL ALL-STAR GAME

The Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks will have five players representing the club at the annual GMHL All Star game.

Illes Gallo, Maciej Rompkowski, David Amnes and Atte Kooppika will suit up for the GMHL World Team and Joel Senecal will join team North America, along with head coach Lui Ricci, who will coach the GMHL North American's alongside with Temiscaming Titans coach Nathan Hewitt.

All five Lumberjacks' players are in the top 15 in league scoring, with Gallo and Rompkowski sitting second and third with 86 and 74 points respectively.

The GMHL All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, January 10th in Gravenhurst.

Lumberjacks announce a pair of trades

The Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks have completed a pair of trades as they head into the final stretch of the Greater Metro Jr. A seasaon. The Jacks sent 20 year defenceman DJ Champagne to the Mattawa Voyageurs in exchange for a future draft pick. Coach Lui Ricci hopes the move will allow Champagne more playing time than he would have saw in Sturgeon Falls.

The Jacks then picked up 21-year-old defenceman Taylor Jackson from the South Muskoka Shield in exchange for the rights to forward Ryan Brain, who currently plays for the NOJHL's North Bay Jr. Trappers.

The 6'3", 200lbs Jackson brings as defence first approach, and is looking forward to making run at the Russell Cup with the Lumberjacks.
