Sturgeon Falls Ontario- After a gruelling 8 games to start the season on the road, and 20minute drives out of town to practice the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks finally got to skate on their home ice and they did not disappoint the home town fans as the Jacks pumped the visiting Haliburton Wolves 15-7 and got goals from 12 different players. Aaron Sullivan, Kyle Wheatherall, and new comer Forrest McGreggor all had 5 points and took the games 3 stars honors. Also it was a special night for rookies Hakiem Ratt and Wabin George who each scored their first Junior A goals. Although the Jacks gave up 7 goals it was a solid game for recently acquired Cole Emery and Corbin Emery on the blue line, both looked as if they had been with the team all year and moved the puck out of the Zone quick. Head coach Lui Ricci offered his thoughts on the new additions.

They simply make our team better on the back end, they move the puck quick out of the Zone and can make that first pass with speed. They fit in right away which is always nice to have when you bring in a few new additions.

Reid Hamilton turned away 52 of 59 shots to pick up his first win of the season, while all 3 goalies for the Haliburton Wolves saw action in taking the loss, the Lumberjacks fired a whopping 81 shots on goal. Assistant coach David Beauchamp offered his thoughts on the win.

We are happy right now with the win as a team, obviously we need to tighten a few things up defensively but we can score goals as a team and that’s always a positive thing, we score an average of 5 goals a game and once we take care of business in our end we will be a tough team to beat, Haliburton is a good hockey team and I give them credit they were playing without some regulars tonight and I don’t expect all games against them to be like that, Right now I am happy for all the boys.

The Lumberjacks have a short time to celebrate as tonight “Saturday” they take on the red hot South Muskoka Shield who currently sits 1st overall in the North Division. Game time is 7:30pm, make sure you come out to support your Lumberjacks.
